Surrender a Pet
If you need to surrender a pet to VHS, please call us at (787) 741-0409 or email viequeshumanesociety@hotmail.com. Wait for a call back - ALL SURRENDERS REQUIRE AN APPOINTMENT.
During the intake call you will be asked a series of questions to determine the needs and condition of the dog or cat to be surrendered. A surrender document will be prepared during this exchange in preparation for the actual surrender. Intake decisions will be based on kennel space and animal needs.
For animals accepted for admission, a surrender appointment will be booked.
If immediate surrender is not possible, the person requesting the surrender and the VHS representative will work together to develop a realistic and workable care plan for the animal. This might include vetting and/or temporary fostering.
Surrendered animals must be brought to the shelter parking lot by their owners at the pre-arranged appointment time. Do not get out of your car. Please wear a mask. Call (787) 741-0209 when you arrive. Someone will come out to have the owner complete and sign the prepared surrender document, and then the animal will be accepted.
